Roster Stability
In recent months, there has been an increase in short-notice changes and roster instability. The company acknowledges that a significant level of flexibility is currently being asked of the crew and is undertaking due diligence to minimise disruptions wherever possible. For example, the number of airport duties has been increased, and standby times in the morning have been adjusted. The base team has also authorised the crewing team to reach out to willing crew members to fly, rather than opting for standby calls or making last-minute changes.
Unfortunately, the lack of roster stability is primarily due to late-notice and day-to-day sick leave reporting. Every sick leave report impacts the schedules of five cabin crew members. Please remember that both the unions and the company encourage crew who are unwell to remain at home and take the time needed to fully recover. Unforeseen circumstances will always occur, and this is understood. However, the company urges anyone who is unfit to work to report sick for a longer period rather than on a day-by-day basis. We are closely monitoring the situation regarding roster stability in collaboration with the company and remain in regular contact.
Absence Reporting
To maintain stable rosters, it is crucial to report your absence promptly via the appropriate channels. Please refer to the sickness protocol in the CLA, which can be found in Appendix 2 on page 32.
easyJet has a duty of care and may contact you during your sickness up to twice a day. If you are unable to answer the phone, you must return the call as soon as possible. We always recommend taking the necessary time to fully recover. It is preferable to report sick for an extended period rather than on a day-by-day basis.
Another important point to remember is that you must report your recovery before returning to work. You can do this even if you have reported sick for an entire block but are fit to return earlier than expected. The sick code will then be removed from your roster, and a duty will be assigned. Remember, easyJet should never ask why you are unwell, and you are not obliged to disclose this information.
iBid: Insight into AMS Bids
The VNC frequently receives questions from members regarding their iBid preferences. We have requested data on the most popular bids and their success rates over the past three published roster periods (October – December 2024).
76.9% of all bids have been successfully granted since October, aligning with the company’s expectations.
Two of the most popular bids are morning starts (51%) and evening finishes (49%). FAs tend to prefer morning starts, while CMs often favour evening finishes. Due to their popularity, there is a lower chance of securing these preferred bids in your roster.
Another popular bid concerns the number of sectors per duty. Over 50% of AMS crew bid for a maximum of two sectors per duty, with the majority of these bids coming from FAs.
At present, the company cannot provide information regarding night-stop bids. This data will be available from January 2025. Crew wishing to bid for or against night stops on their published roster are advised to prioritise this in their primary bid to increase the chances to get this refelcted in their future rosters.
